Weather’s Edge sets out to capture the richness and diversity of women’s lives in Newfoundland and Labrador. It includes contributions from short story writers, scholars, poets and community activists and policy makers as well as excerpts from letters, diaries and short biographical pieces. The mix of forms and approaches is a key strength of this book, providing new and challenging insights. The book is organized in a series of sequences or chains of writing, each of which connects to its neighbors in different ways - some obvious and some surprising.
Weather’s Edge builds directly on the success of Their Lives and Times: Women in Newfoundland and Labrador: A Collage (Killick, 1995), responding to the demands of a new reading public and taking advantage of the innovations in thinking and writing that have taken place in the last decade. The result is an accessible Reader for university and college students as well as for the general public.
